University Institute for Migration Studies
Comillas Pontifical University - Madrid, Spain

The University Institute for Migration Studies of the Comillas Pontifical University of Madrid and the Scribani Network are pleased to announce the organisation of the 2010 International Scribani Conference on the topic of "European Migration and Asylum policies: Coherence or Contradiction? - An Interdisciplinary Evaluation of the EU Summits of Tampere (1999), The Hague (2004) and Stockholm (2009)". We welcome a broad audience including researchers, professors, students, policy makers and immigrant associations to share research results and discuss policy issues regarding the way the EU has been treating this important issue.

The conference will focus on the new challenges raised by the European asylum and immigration policy from an interdisciplinary point of view. This workshop is a critical examination of the contents of the European migration policies prepared by the Tampere, The Hague and the Stockholm summits. We will treat four topics:

  1. Legal migration and integration;
  2. Irregular migration and border controls;
  3. Right to Asylum;
  4. EU migration, development policies, and the fundamentals of the integration of nations and regions.
