Master in the Electric Power Industry
The Master's Degree in Electric Power Industry forms part of the Postgraduate Programme in Electrical Energy and is awarded by Comillas Pontifical University.
The worldwide electricity sectors have been undergoing restructuring in the last few years, giving rise to new market settings: generation and commercialisation liberalised markets, new business areas, new technologies and processes, and as a result, a change of philosophy. In order to tackle these changes, the main focus is on the need to update training for professionals working this sector and recent graduates who wish to enter it.
The Master's Degree in Electric Power Industry introduces students to the technical and economic aspects of this new sector over a one year period. Primarily based on basic engineering training, but also designed for students from other disciplines who are prepared to make an additional effort, Master's Degree students will gain in-depth knowledge of the economic, regulatory and technological foundations of new business areas as they are applied in companies and organisations in the sector. They will acquire direct experience of its application through one-to-one supervised work (the Master Project) in one of the organisations or companies.
This Degree is also part of the Master in Economics and Management of Network Industries (EMIN), which has been coordinated by Comillas since the 2006-07 academic year, in conjunction with other European partner Universities, such as the Jean Monnet Faculty at the Paris-Sud 11 University (France) and the Delft University of Technology (Holland) that offer a global and transnational perspective as well as a viewpoint of the different industrial The historical and structured experience from the different European States of regulation and management in this sector contributes an extensive wealth of content to the programme that also benefits from its international student and teacher profile, who come from both Europe and further afield (The United States, Canada, China, South America, The Near East, Asia etc).
In 2010, the European Commission renewed their awarding of the ERASMUS MUNDUS excellence label to this programme, whose consortium has extended to other prestigious universities such as the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), The John Hopkins University (The United States), The University of Texas in Austin (The United States), The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (United States) Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available for both professors and students (both from within and outside of the EU) amounting to close to a million euros.
