Addressing the existential questions without frontiers
This is the first action of the Sophia-Iberia project. There are two related stages which are aspects of a single activity. 1) The web-based workshop which will continue until June 2008. 2) The academic conference in Madrid from the 6-8 of September 2007. Both events will have the same themes related to Human Evolution, but will seek to complement each other and are mutually enriching. The objective of the workshop is that it be an instrument for the flow of ideas on the big questions proposed. The objective is participation, and this depends on the interest received from the public. In order to make this interest and participation possible, the public must understand the objectives, the themes and the approach of Sophia Iberia
As the submitted participation papers can be of very different types, styles and qualities, a Publication Committee (advised by external readers), appointed for this purpose, will be responsible for the selection for the web-based workshop and for the academic conference. The same participation paper that can be posted on-line may also be defended at the conference. How to participate and present participation papers is explained in detail as regards both cases in the sections on the web-based workshop and the academic conference.
The Sophia-Iberia project has opted for dialogue. Thus, the participation papers accepted will receive comments which in turn will be responded to on-line. Moreover, those which are not selected will also be responded to. A simple deposit for ideas with no life is not enough. Therefore, dialogue will be sought involving the authors of the papers and Sophia Iberia, as well as multi-directional dialogue between the authors of papers. In addition, an endeavor will be made to ensure order, rapid understanding and easy access to the materials which are published on-line (through analytical indices and thematic guides for consultation). Sophia Iberia will also contribute documentation and interviews which enrich reflection on the themes of the workshop. In order to present the themes for debate, to enrich reflection, to suggest problems and issues, Sophia Iberia also presents a work document for each of the sessions of the web-based workshop. The public may also make suggestions to Sophia Iberia on the introduction of other documentation and provide ideas they consider to be relevant.
If the authors are interested, Sophia-Iberia will issue publication certificates for the participation papers which are accepted by the publication committee.
The Sophia-Iberia in Europe Project opens with the public convening of a web-based workshop on the theme Human evolution from its anthropic roots. From this web site we propose the themes or sessions for debate which include an introductory theme and six basic themes. Each session is introduced by a "framework document" in order to present and suggest the profiles of each theme. Each session will be enriched with documents, interviews and participation papers. Further on we also explain in detail how to participate.
More informationThe launch of the web-based workshop also involves the public call for participation in the academic conference in Madrid on the theme: Human Evolution: in search of our anthropic roots. This conference is a particular localized period in the process of reflection opened by the web-based workshop. Further on we explain the circumstances concerning the themes, the speakers and discussants, the program, and how to attend and participate.
